Okay, so I saw this title “Jrue Holiday Wife Cancer” floating around and, man, it hit me. I remember when this news first broke, and it was such a heavy situation. So, I decided to dig in a little and, like, piece together what actually happened, from start to finish, in my own words.
First, I scrolled through a bunch of old articles and social media posts to get the timeline straight. It all started back when Lauren Holiday, Jrue’s wife, was pregnant with their first child. That’s supposed to be, you know, the happiest time, right?
The Diagnosis
But then, boom. Lauren, a former soccer star herself, started getting these terrible headaches. Doctors initially thought maybe it was just pregnancy stuff, but it kept getting worse. So, they did some more digging, more tests, more scans. That’s when they found it – a benign brain tumor, called a meningioma, near her optic nerve. Benign, thank goodness, but still scary as hell, especially when you’re pregnant.
The biggest worry, from what I gathered, was the timing. The tumor needed to be removed, but Lauren was, like, super pregnant. So, they had this huge decision to make: operate now and risk the baby, or wait and risk Lauren’s health even further.
Jrue’s Decision
This is where Jrue stepped up, big time. He was playing for the New Orleans Pelicans back then, and basketball was his life. But he didn’t hesitate. He announced he was taking indefinite leave from the NBA to be with Lauren. No questions asked. Family first, always. I remember reading his statements at the time, and you could just feel how much he loved her and how determined he was to support her.
The Waiting Game
They decided to wait until after the baby was born to do the surgery. I can’t even imagine the stress and anxiety they must have been going through during those weeks. Just waiting, hoping, praying for the best.

Recovery and Return
