So, I’ve been following CJ Stroud, you know, watching him play. Kid’s got talent, really impressive stuff on the field. It got me thinking about his backstory, where he came from. Sometimes you see these young stars and just wonder what makes ’em tick, what their journey was like.

I started digging around a bit online. Just casual searching at first, typing his name into the search bar during a commercial break or something. Saw the usual stuff – high school star, Ohio State, NFL draft. But then I kept seeing mentions, little snippets here and there, about his dad. Nothing really clear, just hints that something was up.
It kinda stuck in my head. Why the mystery? So, later on, I decided to look into it properly. Fired up the laptop and started searching more specifically. Things like “CJ Stroud father,” “Stroud family history,” that kind of thing. You know how it goes, down the rabbit hole.
Took a bit of sifting. Found a bunch of articles, some forum discussions. You gotta be careful online, lots of noise. But eventually, I pieced together the story from what looked like reliable news reports and sports journalism pieces I read through.
Here’s what I found out:
His dad’s name is Coleridge Bernard Stroud III. And yeah, he’s incarcerated. It wasn’t just some minor thing either.
From what I gathered, back around 2015, he got involved in some really serious stuff. The reports I read mentioned charges including:

- Carjacking
- Kidnapping
- Robbery
- Fleeing from police
Apparently, this wasn’t his first run-in with the law either. The articles mentioned previous convictions which played a role in the sentencing.
Because of all that, and I guess California’s laws, he ended up with a really long sentence. Something like 38 years to life. So, he’s been locked up for a good chunk of CJ’s journey through college and into the NFL.
It definitely puts CJ’s focus and success into perspective, doesn’t it? Dealing with that kind of heavy family situation while performing at such a high level… wow. Just makes you realize the kind of pressure and background noise some people overcome. Anyway, that’s the story I put together from just digging around after watching the guy play. Pretty intense stuff behind the bright lights.
