It’s the chimes! The number of chimes, is the location on the clock, which equals the animal to get from the chest.
I scratched my head for a bit, then realized the game had been giving me hints all along! There were these chime sounds throughout the game. I carefully listened to the order of chimes!
Finally, with a satisfying click, the clock started ticking. A secret passage opened up, and I felt like the smartest person alive (even though I probably spent way too long on this puzzle).
